As believers we often struggle with how to serve God and live out our faith in the marketplace. Serving on Sunday is familiar and comfortable – you can be an usher, a Musician or even a preacher.

Yet in a study of the gospels and the book of Acts, we see Jesus and Paul actively moving in the marketplace! Ministry was never limited to Sunday or within the walls of the church.

How then can we serve God right in the office? Here are some thoughts:

1️⃣ Be an excellent testimony. This is the most fundamental aspect. We need to build a reputation for excellence and integrity.

“A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

2️⃣ Pray for your office, department or company. It is actually very biblical to pray that the place you work in be blessed.

“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”” ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭29:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Here we learn from Jeremiah that as our office is blessed, we are blessed. In turn we can bless others.

3️⃣ Be known for generosity. Offer to buy lunch for a colleague. Volunteer for work. Take initiative.

“A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.”‭‭ Proverbs‬ ‭18:16‬ ‭NIV‬

This is powerful because it opens the doors for you to build relationships that may eventually lead to open doors for the gospel. Even more, the bible says that it opens the way for you into the presence of the great. You build a foundation through generosity that gives you access to your bosses and others in authority. Just like Nehemiah, Daniel and Jospeh, God can use you to bless in increasing measure, first affecting individuals, then your team, department and more!
